Riley Young at Envision Conference

This summer, Roxboro Community School (RCS) seventh grader Riley Young joined outstanding middle school students from across the nation to take part in the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JNYLC) in Washington, DC.

Riley was nominated to attend the forum by her sixth grade math teacher, Judith Clayton. In addition to participating in the Junior Journalism and Art clubs, Riley is also passionate about dance and was a member of the tennis team and cheerleading squad last school year.

According to Envision, which hosts the JNYLC, Washington serves as a living classroom for students as they develop leadership skills and enjoy the educational experience of a lifetime during the six-day program.

With a focus on influential figures from American history and social advocacy, the program is packed with fun and engaging site experiences as well as hands-on activities that bring the concepts and skills of effective leadership to life.

Students in the JNYLC learn to work together as they develop action plans that they can put into practice in their homes and communities, and continue beyond their conference experience. Students also explore monuments and memorials in our nation's capital and participate in an exclusive Capitol Hill experience, during which past attendees have visited the Floor of the House and heard a speech from a former member of Congress.

For over 35 years, Envision by WorldStrides has empowered extraordinary students to become their best selves through programs that enable them to discover their passion, explore a career, and positively impact their world.
