Roxboro Community School

Thanks to a Piedmont Electric Bright Ideas Grant written and received by the Roxboro Community School (RCS) high school science department, students will soon be able to use 3-D molecular design kits to study chromosomes and membrane functions. According to RCS science teacher Ashley Bailey, "The goals of this project are for students to gain a solid understanding of microbiology through hands-on inquiry science exploration. Students will use the models in pairs to discuss the processes, discover how those processes affect their health and make connections between cellular systems and how they work together." The $1,905 grant will be used to purchase three different 3-D molecular design modeling kits on the topics of chromosomes, CRISPR adaptive immunity, and membrane functions.
